Officers Meeting Update

Today the officers of NJHS collected all of the tracking worksheets and counted Ducky Gram profits ($130!).

Our next general meeting is January 13th, 2011.

Pie in the Face

Our "Pie in the Face" event was a big success! Thanks to all of the teachers who donated and the NJHS members who volunteered. Hopefully we can do it again sometime this year. :D

Angel Tree at Arrowhead

This Saturday, December 4th from noon to 2PM, NJHS welcomes members and friends to the Arrowhead Mall food court. Each person should bring $5 to pool together in small groups and purchase items from the Angel Tree for children or elderly adults. Mr. Herold and Mrs. Petry will be hanging out in the food court the entire time, but students need to get their own rides. Parents are welcomed.

Light the Night 11/6/10

Join us for Light the Night on Saturday, November 6th from 5-7:30PM. We had a blast last year and had about 20 NJHS members. Don't forget to wear your NJHS shirt! Parents and other family members are welcomed to attend.

We just got a few more size Small and Medium NJHS shirts. Stop by Mr. Herold's room (D5) to pick up your shirt. Cost is only $10 and there are only a few left.

First General Meeting

At our first meeting, September 16th, we talked about service hours, how to track your points and filled out a survey about community service. NJHS members also recieved a paper discussing our rules, a point tracking chart and played a game to help break the ice. Our next meeting will be October 14th. :)

7th Grade Officers

7th graders, new to NJHS, had their first meeting yesterday. We discussed running for an officer position: http://hillcrestnjhs.com/officers

Members interested in running for office need to submit a speech to Mr. Herold or Mrs. Petry by Tuesday, May 11th, to be considered for the ballot. Voting will take place on Thursday, May 13th, after school for all new members.

Duckies Have Arrived!

Duckie sales will be next week, Monday, May 10th through Friday, may 14th, during all four lunches. The many different kinds of duckies are $1.50 for one or $1 each for more than one. Profits from the sales will go towards the charities supported by NJHS.

New Member Meeting

This Thursday, May 6th, after school, in the health room, there is a meeting for all new 7th grade members. We will be discussing NJHS in general and how to apply to become an officer.

Bully Awareness Week

The NJHS officers have been working on a project to help Hillcrest students become more aware of preventions for bullying. They feel it is a problem at our school and even in the home via the internet. Special games during lunch and videos during the school day will be featured the last week of April, from the 26th through the 30th.

Book Drive Sorting

Current NJHS members are needed to help stay after school on Tuesday, April 20th to sort and box up books collected form the recent book drive.

New Member Induction

The 7th grader eligible for NJHS have been given applications for next year's membership. Completed applications need to be turned into Mrs. Petry or Mr. Herold by Monday, April 19th. Members will be chosen next week and given invitations to the induction ceremony to be held on Thursday, April 29th at 6:30PM in the Hillcrest gymnasium.

General Meeting 4/15/10

There is a meeting for all NJHS members on Thursday, April 15th, right after school. Be there!

NJHS Book Drive

Attention all students! Will you help out kids who have no books? NJHS is hosting a book drive for elementary kids in our district who don't have any books in their homes. Studies show that early reading helps kids be successful later in school, so please help these kids who have no books! Bring new or gently-used kids' books (anything for ages 0-10 years old) to your 4th hour teacher, this week and next.

For every book you bring in, you'll receive a raffle ticket for some great prizes! So go home and find all the little-kid books you can to bring in for the book drive, or stop by the bookstore and buy a few. Thanks for helping those who are less fortunate than you!

T-Shirts Still Available

Stop by Mr. Herold's room (D5) to purchase your NJHS shirt. It's nice to see our members wearing them during our many events. Proceeds go towards our chosen charities at the end of the school year.

Student Summit

The NJHS officers and Brittany (district committee member) attended the annual DVUSD Student Summit, along with Mr. Herold. Every school in the district was represented at Barry Goldwater High School to learn about ways to stay safe and stay healthy. They will be working on a project involving the entire school, based on student bullying.

Kendra's Race and Rummage Sale Update

We had a couple of NJHS members come out to participate in Kendra's Race and a couple helped with the school rummage sale. Thanks to everyone that volunteered!

Two February 6th Events

February 6th, 2010: Hillcrest Rummage Sale. Massive school garage sale to raise money! Bring items that your family can donate to our garage sale, and come help sell. 6 am to noonish.

February 6th, 2010: Kendra's Race Cancer Fundraiser. 1 mile run/walk. $10 entry fee (this is what raises the money for cancer). 9 am (lasts about 30-60 min). People can run competitively or just for fun... or walk. Come and bring your friends!
